Both of these teams have emerged as threats this season to take down the old kings of the Western Conference. They are sick of being overshadowed by the San Antonio Spurs and Los Angeles Lakers and are ready to be dominant forces. The Rockets came as a surprise to everyone when they signed Jeremy Lin and James Harden in the offseason. Two guys who were great role players, but played with superstars. The Clippers are known for their high flying dunkers, Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan, and their incredible leader Chris Paul.
However, the Clippers may be without their great ball handler as he is considered a game time decision after bruising his knee in the Clippers game against the Orlando Magic. That seems to be the only significant injury news as Jeremy Lin stated he is ‘good to go’ for tonight’s game. The Rockets are not shooting too well from beyond the arc as of late and I think that will hurt them against this team who is very tough inside. I give the advantage to the Clippers who have been playing unbelievable this year. I give a lot of credit to how well the Rockets have done, but the Clippers have too many weapons. More importantly, Clippers or Rockets, who you takin?
It’s the battle of Los Angeles. These teams could not be at more different sides of the spectrum right now. The Clippers are the high flying team that ended 2012 with a 17 game winning streak. The Lakers are the veteran team that looks like it can’t keep up with the athletics of the NBA anymore. Even Kobe Bryant, the superstar of Los Angeles basketball, has said that his team is old and cannot keep up with this Clippers team. He even compared the Clippers to Lakers teams ran by Magic Johnson. Bryant said, “They’re very spectacular and they’re fun to watch. There’s no question about it. They have higher jumpers than ‘Showtime’ did, though.” He went on to say that the Clippers are expected to blow the Lakers out tonight.
Kobe did you forget which team you play for? Why are you hyping up your opponent when your team is the one who needs all the support they can get? Well if the Lakers don’t have any confidence in themselves, I guess neither will I. I was already picking the Clippers to win tonight, but now that it sounds like Kobe’s heart isn’t in it, I am even more confident with my pick. Lakers or Clippers, who runs Los Angeles? Who you takin?
Since the Clippers continue to win, here is a cute moment between point guard Chris Paul and the team’s lucky charm, his son Chris Paul II. Little man’s basketball knowledge is pretty impressive. He did beat a seven time All-Star already! He is definitely going to be playing about twenty years. Blake Griffin just needs to have a son so we can see the children try to upstage the dads!
Last night at the Clippers-Celtics game, we saw little CP3 hanging out with his very own personal babysitter. The little cutie was spotted sitting on teen heartthrob Justin Bieber’s lap. The three year old looked like he was more interested in talking to the singer rather than watch his dad win his fifteenth game in a row. After the game, Chris Paul tweeted the Biebs telling him just how happy his son was to have hung out with the star. Justin started the tweeting telling Paul, “yo @CP3 your kid is the man!! haha. u killed ’em tonight. good seeing u.” Maybe Bieber can teach CP3 Jr. a few dance moves and he will become the next big thing! He may only be three years old, but it is never too early to get them started! On a side note, Chris Paul if you ever need a court side babysitter, I am great with children!
In the past few days, the sports world has been buzzing ever since Kobe Bryant came out and said that the 2012 Olympics team would destroy the “Dream Team”. This might have been the dumbest thing Kobe has ever said. Especially now that this team just lost Blake Griffin. Griffin appears to have torn him meniscus during practice. So now the team has called up 19-year-old Anthony Davis who has never even stepped onto an NBA Court. So the team consists of: Anthony Davis, Carmelo Anthony, Kobe Bryant, Tyson Chandler, Kevin Durant, James Harden, Andre Igoudala, LeBron James, Kevin Love, Chris Paul, Russell Westbrook, and Dereon Williams. This is definitely a great lineup, no question about it. However, this team would get eaten alive by the 1992 tea which consisted of ELEVEN Hall of Famers. The 2012 team has some future hall of famers, however some of these players are still so young that their career might not be as prominent as most would have predicted. What did Bryant come out and say exactly? He criticized the team for not being athletic and being out of their prime. Let’s look at the facts… Jordan was 29, Scottie Pippen was around 27, Charles Barkley was 29, and Patrick Ewing was 29 and Kobe Bryant is turning 34. So actually….. the Dream Team WAS in their prime and Kobe, well is not (not taking anything away from him). Is Kobe a little worried that this team will not deliver? They already lack in the big man department with Dwight, Diva, Howard not playing and Chris Bosh recovering from injury. Will this team in gold? Most likely, but there is no competition for them. I think the King said it best himself, “For him to make that comparison, it’s one of those things where it creates conversation,” Jordan said. “I guess we’ll never know. I’d like to think that we had 11 Hall of Famers on that team, and whenever they get 11 Hall of Famers, you call and ask me who had the better Dream Team. Remember now, they learned from us. We didn’t learn from them.”
Okay, a few weeks ago we were enamored with Blake Griffin’s dunk in which he jumped over Kendrick Perkins. No one thought it could be topped. Boy were we all wrong. Last night, Griffin and the Clippers took on their cross town rivals, the Los Angeles Lakers and within seconds of the game starting he out did himself. This is one you just need to see to believe. The best part? It was one of two dunks over Pau Gasol that he had for the night. It is rumored that right after this dunk, teammate Andrew Bynum was seen laughing at Pau. I mean I had a small chuckle to myself when I saw how Blake embarrassed him. Take a look at the raw athleticism this young man possess. Are we sure he is human?
Brittney Griner is a phenom. She is an incredibly talented basketball player. Griner stands at an astonishing 6’8″ with a 68 inch wingspan. She is the only college player selected to represent the US in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. Today, Griner and the rest of the Baylor Women’s basketball team played the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Not only did the Lady Bears blow out the Jackets, 83-68, but Griner had a double double. She finished the game with 35 points, 10 rebounds, and six blocks. Those are the type of stats to make most men’s player jealous. Not only did she have a sensational night just looking at her stats, but her delivery is giving Blake Griffin a run for his money. Below is a video of Griner nailing a two handed dunk. It is almost unbelievable that a person let alone a girl is that powerful, but that is what is so inspirational. She is showing the world that girls can literally do anything men can do. She is definitely motivational for even some like myself who might never actually get on the court, but still faces the harsh stereotypes that women not only cannot play sports, but do not know anything about them. For that, I deeply thank you Brittney Griner for being yourself and doing it so well. I want to see her destroy any of the ignorant men who think girls cannot play on the court!
