There is word spreading that former Chicago Bulls star Scottie Pippen is working on a reality show. It will be based on his and wife Larsa’s life as “Chicago royalty” and the crazy antics that both of their families bring to the table. The supposed title for the show is “Big Pippen” which I already hate, but I have a few other issues with this show.
First of all, Larsa was on the first season of the Real Housewives of Miami. She wasn’t asked back for the second season. What does that tell you? Clearly, they are not ‘reality gold’. Also she was shooting in MIAMI not Chicago, so to call them a power couple in Chicago is clearly wrong. They don’t even spend all their days there. People from Chicago will find them fraudulent.
Second of all, I think that this is just a way for Scottie to repair his public image in Chicago and all across the country. Pippen came under fire a few years back after saying that Lebron James was better than Michael Jordan. I don’t know if Pippen hit his head, but it was Michael that helped you get all those rings. It was Michael that put the Bulls on the map. You have to give credit to the man who was standing next to you on the court. There has to be some kind of loyalty there and Scottie clearly broke that with his comment.
I know I will not be watching this show. I think that this will only hurt Pippen’s reputation and that it is time for athletes to stop thinking that everything needs to be filmed. There is something magical about not knowing what your favorite athlete does on a daily basis. Doesn’t everyone try to imagine what a day in the life of Michael Jordan or Derek Jeter is like? I know I do!
Did he just jump over somebody? Yes, Lebron James just jumped over an actual person, John Lucas, for a monster dunk. This might not be a memorable moment for people who wanted the Chicago Bulls to win, but it was for the world of basketball. Everyone knows how freakishly talented Lebron James is. However, in that moment he did something that put him above everyone else in his generation of basketball. If you don’t believe me just watch the video and tell me he is not one of the best ever. Now if only we could get him to do the dunk contest maybe more people would actually watch NBA All Star weekend.
If you can get passed the bare bottom on the back cover, you are surprisingly in for a really honest look at the NBA during the early 90s. What makes this account unique is that it is from the perspective of a player who was not the “Golden Child” at the time, but instead an outcast. Most people remember Rodman for the his hair colors, outrageous outfits, or the fact that he married himself. However, many people do forget just how good he actually was. He wasn’t the scoring machine or the guy you would want to take the last shot in a tied game, but he is the guy who would get the rebound to set up that last shot for the superstar to take. The book takes a look at all aspects of Rodman’s life including his childhood and his extremely infamous relationship with Madonna. Imagine they had a reality show? Who wouldn’t want to know their every day life. Well, Rodman gives a glimpse into it and he doesn’t hold much back. From giving sexual details to the real reason they broke it off, Rodman puts it all out there. In a different aspect, you see the human aspect of him. It always seemed like he wanted to be a character, but he was actually a very accepting and giving person. Its just that no one wanted to ever believe that so it was never made public. In the book, he talks about Magic Johnson’s decision to still play after announcing he was HIV positive, admitting that he could not understand why players like Karl Malone refused to play side by side with him. He admits that he wanted to play Johnson just as tough as he had before and he shaved the AIDS ribbon into his scalp in support of him and those struggling with the disease. He also admits that even though he didn’t have his own foundation or put his name on a charity it was because he wanted to go out there and help the people struggling. He would walk around the stadium and pass out money or tickets to the homeless, especially in Detroit. Probably the most interesting thing that he reveals is that he didn’t pick up a basketball until he was already in his twenties and he only went to a junior college after a recruiter pushed him to go. This book was definitely interesting as is everything with Dennis Rodman, even the way it is written keeps your attention. There are some lines that are bolded, some that are smaller, and some quotes that take up entire pages, but what did you expect? Twelve point Times New Roman the entire way? This is definitely worth reading especially to see which players garnered his respect and which ones he describes as overrated.
Derrick Rose may be beloved on the court, but he has a new number one fan. Rose’s longtime girlfriend Mieka Reese gave birth to the couple’s first child, PJ, sometime in October. Rose is an extremely private person, but he couldn’t help but share some gorgeous pictures of his new son. The little man looks absolutely adorable is his world debut cuddled up on his daddy’s shoulder in one picture. What a head of hair on the little guy! Most men would be jealous of all that! Rose is new to Twitter, but you can follow the point guard here .
It has been quite a while since we have seen the Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose. While he has it not doing what he is known best for, he is in the new Addidas commercial alongside rappers Big Sean and Nicki Minaj. The NBA superstar looks quite handsome off the court and out of uniform.
Derrick Rose has finally succumbed to injuries. With less than two minutes to play, Rose suffered a terrible injury in which he tore his ACL. In a playoff game against the Philadelphia 76ers, Rose leaped off his left foot and just came down all wrong. Watching the injury occur is awful. “It’s like the saddest win,” Bulls shooting guard Kyle Korver said. “Regardless, we’ve got to pick ourselves up. We’ve played a lot of games this year without him. So maybe it was just getting us ready for this.” You can just see the pain and agony all over his face. Rose was escorted off the court by coaches. This is certainly not the first injury Rose has suffered this season. He only played in 39 games this season after multiple injuries to multiple areas of his body. It is quite depressing that one of the greatest young talents will not be able to lead his team through the playoffs. On a brighter note for Chicago fans, they did win the game… I guess that is not much consolation prize.
To make matters worse, Rose was not the only player to suffer a torn ACL. Rising star, Iman Shumpert from the New York Knicks also ended his season tonight as the Knicks were blown out by the Miami Heat. He dribbled up the court went left and just dropped allowing Mario Chalmers to get the steal while he laid there in excruciating pain. Poor guys. What an awful way to end the season.
I was quite surprised when I saw the new May cover of GQ and saw Derrick Rose on there. Rose has never been one to be very public and he definitely does not do many photo shoots. However, we get to see Rose out of his Chicago uniform and he looks great. It is definitely not the look I would expect him to rock, but nevertheless he looks like he could walk the runway [well maybe not, but he would look great posing with the NBA Championship trophy all over the country]. In the magazine, Rose stepped forward and said he was uncomfortable with his level of fame. “Sometimes it’s too much,” Rose told GQ Magazine in a story posted on its website Tuesday. “Chicago isn’t used to stardom. Back when Michael [Jordan] was here, everyone was used to actors and singers and people being at the games. But there’s been a drought since then, and even celebrities, they’ll stop here to film a movie and then pop right back out. They don’t know how to act toward celebrity. So I always have someone with me. I can have a hat on, glasses on, whatever. People still notice me. If I go outside without a hat on, I feel like I’m naked.” Some of the pictures from the shoot are below.
