What started as trash talking on the court, has spiraled into all kinds of real life drama. On Monday night, the Boston Celtics played the New York Knicks and words were exchanged throughout the entire game between Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Garnett. Part of Garnett’s game is psychological by trying to get into a player’s mind. Needless to say, Melo was having an off night and KG’s words started to affect him. Apparently KG made a comment about Anthony’s wife along the lines of, [your wife] “tastes like Honey Nut Cheerios”. Not the most clever line by KG, but it clearly worked because Anthony got so mad after that he waited for Garnett to walk out of Boston’s tunnel onto the team bus.
This resulted in Melo being suspended for a game, but the news that is coming out now, is even more revealing. It looked like Melo was not fully present at the game, like he had his mind elsewhere. Rumors are swirling that Melo and his wife Lala are currently on a break after they hit a rough patch in their marriage. The split reportedly happened about two months ago. The two have yet to comment on the split rumors, but it seems like this would make the most sense. Together or not, at least we get a brand new season of Lala’s Full Court Life! Don’t get too excited.
After the tragedy in Newtown, CT, many Americans are coming out asking for stricter gun laws. While this has caused much dissension between people, some of our favorite stars have come out in a new PSA. DemandAPlan.Org gathered up celebrities to help spread their message asking President Obama to rid the streets of guns. In the commercial, a few of our favorite sports stars make an appearance including New York Giants receiver Victor Cruz, New York Knicks guard Carmelo Anthony, and Los Angeles Clippers point guard Chris Paul.
Victor Cruz has had the most attachment to the Newtown tragedy after hearing that one of the children, Jack Pinto, killed was buried in his jersey. It left the star speechless and it has made effort to visit the Pinto family and the survivors of the shooting. Maybe eliminating guns isn’t the answer. How about we all just try and be nicer to each other?
The Knicks may have won the first battle, but the Lakers think they have found their saviors. Yes, Steve Nash and Pao Gasol have returned for the second match-up of these two teams. The last time these two teams met in New York, they both watched from the bench. Kobe Bryant and Carmelo Anthony are both leading the league in scoring so this will be a very high scoring game if these two get hot. The Lakers have seemed to start turning things around and look to continue their winning streak.
Steve Nash is a huge addition for the Lakers as he fits into the D’Antoni offense. However, don’t sleep on the Knicks who remain one of the best teams in the league right now. Amar’e Stoudemire did travel with the team, but will not play today. The Knicks have filled his void very nicely almost to the point that he may be a bench player.
I think Kobe is more pumped for this game and will continue his 30 points a game streak. He knows how to play on Christmas and how to defend his stadium. I think the Lakers come out with the win. The Knicks will hang around, but the Lakers are on a roll right now. Lakers or Knicks, who you takin?
How can you watch this video and not root for the Houston Rockets? McHale has shown true heart and courage to come back to his team after losing his daughter. McHale’s daughter Sasha lost her battle with lupus recently at the age of 23. They wear a green stripe on their jerseys in her honor. For most people, coaching would be the last thing on their minds. However, McHale has returned and has received nothing but positivity from players and coaches. In the video, he got a special embrace from his prodigy Kevin Garnett. As I watch the Rockets blow out the Knicks in New York, I hope that these victories are bringing some sort of happiness to him.
It is Jeremy Lin’s return to Madison Square Garden and it seems like he is the only one not excited about it. The Knicks have been rolling through the season, but they might be without superstar Carmelo Anthony for another game. He suffered an ankle injury in the game against the Lakers and has yet to play a game since. He is considered a game-time decision. The Rockets have been doing very well as well. Both James Harden and Jeremy Lin have been good for their new teams. They still have some holes in their team, but I definitely expect this to be a close game. With or without Carmelo I expect the Knicks to win this one. So, even though Lin is not excited for the game, who you takin in tonight’s matchup?
It is not often that a player can come along and capture the hearts’ of every New Yorker quite like Jeremy Lin did this year. He even had his own catchy nickname “Linsanity”. Jeremy Lin was able to take a Knicks team that was struggling so much and somehow put them back on a winning pace. The Knicks were without superstar Carmelo Anthony and needed someone to bring back excitement to the Garden.
However, all good things must come to an end. Carmelo came back and didn’t appreciate Lin taking away all his shine. Then, there was the knee injury that kept him sidelined for the rest of the season and finally, there was the snub by the Knicks who did not offer to match the contract Lin was given by the Houston Rockets and he was shipped off to Texas. However, Linsanity will never be forgotten for any Knicks fan.
It is unbelievable where both of these teams stand currently. The New York Knicks currently have a hold of first place in the Eastern Conference, with a record of 16-5. That includes two blowout victories against the defending NBA Champions Miami Heat. Carmelo Anthony has really stepped up into an MVP candidate and Jason Kidd has shown that no matter the age, he is still a force to be reckoned with.
The Lakers have been a mess all season. From firing head coach Mike Brown five games into the season to loss of point guard Steve Nash to the lack of winning from this team, nothing seems to be going right. Dwight Howard can’t make a free throw if you paid him and head coach Mike D’Antoni might be in over his head. Superstar Kobe Bryant is known for being confident, but has lately seemed deflated.
However, Kobe has done some incredible things in the Garden. He is one of those players who loves having the spotlight on him. So what happens tonight? Do the Lakers come in and dominate MSG like they know they can do or do the Knicks beat another power house team and cement their place in the NBA? I have no idea what will happen tonight, but it will interesting. I predict the Lakers to squeak by just because of how good Kobe has been in the Garden and they need a win so badly. East Coast vs. West Coast- who you takin?
