A Girl's Account of All Things Sports

carmelo-lala-jeansWhat started as trash talking on the court, has spiraled into all kinds of real life drama.  On Monday night, the Boston Celtics played the New York Knicks and words were exchanged throughout the entire game between Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Garnett.  Part of Garnett’s game is psychological by trying to get into a player’s mind.  Needless to say, Melo was having an off night and KG’s words started to affect him.  Apparently KG made a comment about Anthony’s wife along the lines of, [your wife] “tastes like Honey Nut Cheerios”.  Not the most clever line by KG, but it clearly worked because Anthony got so mad after that he waited for Garnett to walk out of Boston’s tunnel onto the team bus.

This resulted in Melo being suspended for a game, but the news that is coming out now, is even more revealing.  It looked like Melo was not fully present at the game, like he had his mind elsewhere.  Rumors are swirling that Melo and his wife Lala are currently on a break after they hit a rough patch in their marriage.  The split reportedly happened about two months ago.  The two have yet to comment on the split rumors, but it seems like this would make the most sense.  Together or not, at least we get a brand new season of Lala’s Full Court Life! Don’t get too excited.

It was the headbutt of the summer.  Who can forget when news broke that former NFL player Chad Johnson (Ochocinco) headbutted his new wife reality star Evelyn Lozada.  She filed for divorce almost immediately after the situation was made public.  With the arrest, Lozada filed a restraining order against her ex-husband of nearly a whole month.  Ever since it went down, Johnson has gone on almost every television show to ask Evelyn for forgiveness, in the mean time he lost his job on the Miami Dolphins.

Now that the whole back story is understood, let’s move on to the present day.  Both Evelyn and Chad came face to face with each other in court.  Evelyn was asking a judge to drop the restraining order against Chad allowing them to communicate with one another.  This could all be to get their reality show back on the air.  The couple filmed a reality show that followed them as they planned their wedding, but it was canned after the incident.  Who knows, but I am sure these two will make some sort of public reconciliation because everything they do is public.

There is word spreading that former Chicago Bulls star Scottie Pippen is working on a reality show.  It will be based on his and wife Larsa’s life as “Chicago royalty” and the crazy antics that both of their families bring to the table. The supposed title for the show is “Big Pippen” which I already hate, but I have a few other issues with this show.

First of all, Larsa was on the first season of the Real Housewives of Miami.  She wasn’t asked back for the second season.  What does that tell you?  Clearly, they are not ‘reality gold’.  Also she was shooting in MIAMI not Chicago, so to call them a power couple in Chicago is clearly wrong.   They don’t even spend all their days there.  People from Chicago will find them fraudulent.

Second of all, I think that this is just a way for Scottie to repair his public image in Chicago and all across the country.  Pippen came under fire a few years back after saying that Lebron James was better than Michael Jordan.  I don’t know if Pippen hit his head, but it was Michael that helped you get all those rings.  It was Michael that put the Bulls on the map.  You have to give credit to the man who was standing next to you on the court.  There has to be some kind of loyalty there and Scottie clearly broke that with his comment.

I know I will not be watching this show.  I think that this will only hurt Pippen’s reputation and that it is time for athletes to stop thinking that everything needs to be filmed.  There is something magical about not knowing what your favorite athlete does on a daily basis.  Doesn’t everyone try to imagine what a day in the life of Michael Jordan or Derek Jeter is like?  I know I do!
